Privacy Policy

1. Overview
This policy describes how VoteSutra handles two distinct categories of information. First, information we collect about visitors to votesutra.com and people who contact us. Second, aggregated electoral data that VoteSutra compiles and provides as a commercial product to campaigns, consultancies and newsrooms. These two categories are governed by different rules and this policy addresses each separately.
VoteSutra is operated from India. All processing is governed by Indian law, including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 to the extent applicable.
2. Data we collect about site visitors
When you use votesutra.com or contact us we may collect:
- Contact information you volunteer through WhatsApp, phone or forms, such as name, phone number, email address and the constituency you enquired about.
- Usage data collected by standard web analytics, including IP address, device type, browser, referring URL, pages viewed and time on page.
- Cookies and similar technologies used to keep the site fast and functional and to measure aggregate usage.
We do not require account creation to access free constituency data on the platform.
3. Data we provide as a product
VoteSutra publishes and, on a paid basis, provides granular electoral datasets, including:
- Constituency-level caste and community composition estimates.
- Historical election results at constituency and, on request, booth level, covering general elections and by-elections from 2008 onwards.
- Booth-level rankings, margin distribution and campaign strategy dossiers.
- Where separately requested, additional data products such as voter phone directories and prominent-member contact rosters.
Purchase of any dataset is subject to the permitted-use terms in section 5 and to the Terms of Service.
4. Sourcing of electoral data
Our datasets are compiled from:
- Publicly available Election Commission of India returns and gazette notifications.
- Publicly available Chief Electoral Officer records for each state.
- Primary field research conducted by our team and vetted partners.
- Aggregated survey research produced by VoteSutra or licensed from third-party research houses.
Voter contact directories, where offered, are compiled from publicly available electoral rolls and publicly listed contact information. VoteSutra does not represent that any dataset is exhaustive, and datasets are updated as new results and returns are declared.
5. Permitted use of purchased data
Data supplied to a purchaser is licensed for that purchaser's own campaign, research or newsroom use. Purchasers may not:
- Resell, sublicense or redistribute the data to a third party.
- Use the data to send unsolicited communications in violation of TRAI regulations or any other applicable law.
- Combine the data with unrelated personal data to build profiles beyond the licensed purpose.
Additional restrictions may apply and are set out in the Terms of Service.
7. Retention
Visitor enquiry data is retained for as long as reasonably needed to respond and to maintain records of business communications, and thereafter for the periods required by applicable law and audit. Analytics data is retained in aggregate form. Purchased datasets are retained on our servers to enable customer support and re-issue.
8. Your rights and removal requests
Subject to applicable law, you can request access to, correction of or deletion of personal information we hold about you, and object to certain uses. To raise a concern or request removal, message us on WhatsApp at +91 9980058577 or email hello@votesutra.com. If you believe your name or contact appears in one of our published datasets incorrectly, message us with the constituency name and we will review promptly.
9. Security
We apply reasonable technical and organisational safeguards to protect information in our custody. No system is fully secure, and we do not warrant that our safeguards are proof against every attack.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent update. Material changes will be communicated on this page.
11. Contact
Questions about this policy can be sent to hello@votesutra.com or on WhatsApp at +91 9980058577.
